During my 15 year career as an Executive Assistant I have had the privilege to work with many senior leaders - Vice Presidents, Chief Operating Officers, Managing Directors to name a few. I have partnered with and acted as a mentor to a variety of different leadership styles, under business critical ever-changing deadlines and deliverables. NLP or Neuro Linguistic Programming is an incredibly powerful approach to communication and personal development. Learning NLP techniques gives you greater control over your ability to be at your best more often. You will be able to effectively manage your thoughts and feelings. To quote Richard Bandler, one of the co-founders of NLP, “NLP is a discovery, not an invention”. As an added benefit, practising NLP approaches can help you develop emotional flexibility and resilience, which are particularly useful in times of great change. Our emotional state impacts both how we come over to others and how easily we can access our own resources. The more we can lead our own emotional state, the more we can lead and influence both ourselves and others.
Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is a form of cognitive behavioural therapy that incorporates principles of mindfulness. Mindfulness is a state of being, where one is fully present in the moment and does not judge or react to their thoughts and emotions. The mindfulness practice that is emphasised in MBCT is mindfulness meditation. Mindfulness meditation is thought to help practitioners understand the concept that thoughts and emotions come and go and that "you are not your thoughts."
